Why do I have cellulite?
Cellulite forms simply because of the female anatomy. Men have fibrous bands under their skin that run in a more horizontal pattern. In contrast, women have bands that are vertical. These vertical bands trap areas of fat and pull the skin downward where they connect. This creates the familiar cottage cheese pattern on the skin above. If a woman has excess fat in an area such as the thigh, the vertical banding accentuates it, creating even more upward pressure and dimpling. Some women also have a thinner dermis layer of their skin. This allows the lumpiness of the fat layer to show itself on the surface.
How VelaSmooth™ works
The VelaSmooth™ equipment massages the target area, applying pulsating suction at the same time to improve local circulation. Next, the mechanical rollers and suction pull up the skin, gently stretching the skin surface as the handpiece is passed over the area. This action stretches and smoothes the fibrous bands that create dimpling. At the same time, radiofrequency and infrared energy are delivered into the dermis. This stimulates fat cell metabolism, which shrinks their size. The result of a VelaSmooth™ treatment is smoother surface skin with a noticeably reduced cellulite presence.
Results
VelaSmooth was approved by the United States FDA in 2005 for the temporary reduction of cellulite. To date, clinical studies have demonstrated up to a 65% reduction in the appearance of cellulite. VelaSmooth also seems to provide body contouring and a reduction in circumferential measurements, although these effects have varied between patients.
How many treatments will I need?
For optimal results, VelaSmooth treatments are recommended twice a week for one to two months. From there monthly sessions should maintain your results.
