Fill Me In: Juvéderm Injectable Gel FAQ

iStock_000004055230Small1-200x300What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is an FDA-approved dermal filler that mainly consists of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found in the skin and muscles, and works to help add volume and hydration to tissue. Because it’s made out of a natural substance, Juvéderm injectable gel has a significantly lower risk of causing an allergic reaction than synthetic dermal fillers.

What can Juvéderm be used for?

When injected into the skin, Juvéderm gel instantly adds volume to the area. Because of its quick and effective results, the procedure is commonly used to plump up and add definition to thin or uneven lips. Juvéderm is also often used to smooth out moderate to severe facial wrinkles, lines and folds.

Juvéderm can also be injected into the cheeks to restore contour to the cheekbone area, which loses volume and tautness over time as a result of aging. It can also be used to even out the appearance of most depressed facial scars, such as deep acne scars, by strategically filling in the “indented” areas.

How long is the recovery time?

While Juvéderm’s results are instantly visible, they are usually also accompanied by redness, swelling, firmness and/or bruising at the site of the injection. These side effects are temporary and usually mild, and clear up within a few days following the injection procedure.

How long do the results last?

Depending on the type of Juvéderm procedure you receive, the results can last six to nine months. Some results have been reported to last for up to one year, and touch-up injections can be administered to maintain optimal results.

Is Juvéderm right for me?

When considering Juvéderm injections, it’s important to go to a plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery and has extensive experience and knowledge regarding fillers. The doctor will examine your face’s soft tissues to determine the best approach for attaining the natural-looking results you desire in the safest and most effective way possible.
